Express Employment's "Pay it Forward Hiring Drive" December 2 to 15, 2013

The Express Employment Professionals office in Windsor will host a Pay it Forward Hiring Drive to put 50 unemployed individuals to work this holiday season.  The primary goal of this drive is to help give encouragement and purpose to as many job seekers as possible by providing them the opportunity to earn a week’s worth of pay and help provide for their families during the holidays.  In turn, Express will Pay it Forward by providing the same number of Christmas meals for individuals at the Downtown Mission.

By joining Express in this hiring effort, employers will gain a qualified worker and give the gift of employment to an individual who would otherwise not work during the weeks of December 2-15 and at the same time assist the Mission in providing hope for someone less fortunate.  Express associates are screened and evaluated before being placed in short- and long-term assignments in a variety of administrative, professional and commercial positions.

“Pay it Forward to us means working with local businesses to help find jobs for unemployed workers in our community so they can earn a pay cheque and help support their families this season,” said Franchisee Colleen Gaudette, owner of the Windsor Express office. “Our vision is to lock arms with businesses in Windsor and the Downtown Mission to bring hope to local families for the holidays.”

This program will provide businesses with the additional support often needed during a busy time of the year while helping someone provide for their family.

Companies and individuals interested in participating in the Pay it Forward Hiring Drive can call the Windsor office at 519-251-1115 for more information.

The Windsor Express Employment Professionals franchise began operation in 1997 and serves the Windsor and Essex County areas with temporary help and direct hire employees in a variety of fields, including administrative, commercial, technical and professional.

Express is on a mission to put a million people to work annually. Worldwide, Express put more than 367,000 people to work in 2012 with more than 600 offices in the U.S., Canada and South Africa. Express provides expertise in evaluation hire, temporary staffing, professional search and human resources and works across a wide variety of industries. Temporary staffing sales for the international staffing franchise company totaled more than $2.3 billion in 2012.

The Windsor office, located at 2885 Lauzon Parkway is currently accepting applications. For more information, call 519-251-1115 or visit www.expresspros.ca.

eWomenNetwork Dinner Meeting Nov. 6, RSVP by Nov 1, 2013!

Stop Frocking: Start Living!

Jo was in hiding for 35 years- she was a key witness in a murder trial. Out of necessity she wore frocks of protection, she lived in disguise and not even those closest to her knew the real story. She has an uncanny ability to rise above situation-after-situation, no matter the obstacle, no matter the test. She is scrappy, a fighter for justice and the people she serves and is ever the optimist. Described as fiercely loyal, adaptable, quick witted, committed, driven,  persistent, and philanthropic, she prefers to shine the light on others.

Hey you, yes you, it's time to Frock Off!  We've all had imposter syndrome from time to time, such is life and business. How many times have you heard, fake it till you make it?  Faking it till you make it, is a frock that serves only to create conformity and a disconnect of epic proportion in your life and business.

Join us to hear this powerful women with eWomenNetwork Wed. Nov. 6

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY RUN SUNDAY SEPT 22, 2013!

350 Volunteers Needed

World Alzheimer’s Day Run For Heroes

Over 3,000 people participate in the run, 350 volunteers needed to assist

Soon Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias won’t only be about our parent’s generation. It will also be about ours.

747,000 Canadians are living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias today. As our

population ages, this number is expected to increase to 1.4 million by 2031.

Today, $33 billion is spent annually on dementia care; by 2041 this figure will jump to $293

              billion per year.

Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging, but age remains a predominant risk factor.

After age 65, the risk for developing dementia doubles every five years; baby boomers are

now entering their years of highest risk.

Dementia can also occur in people in their 40s.

Changes in the brain that lead to dementia can begin decades before symptoms appear.

There is still no cure for Alzheimer’s disease; some medications may temporarily manage the

symptoms, but none can stop, slow or reverse the disease.

In absence of a cure, early access to help, care and support can make a huge difference in the

quality of life for people with dementia, their caregivers and families.

No matter the stage of the disease, the Alzheimer Society offers help and hope.

“ Heroes live amongst us, raise the bar, and make us all better people. This run allows you to say, ‘I am participating for the person who has made a difference in my life.’ We celebrate the caregivers of Alzheimer patients. The proceeds of this event go to fund Caregiver Support Programs at the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County.”

 – Race Director and Founder, Chris Uszynski

Currently 100 registered volunteers of the 350 needed and have less than 3 weeks to reach their goal.  The volunteers are needed to ensure the safety of the runners throughout the event.  Volunteer positions include Parking Attendants, Road Closure Attendants, and Water Station Attendants.

Please  distribute the information on how our community can help.  Those interested in volunteering can contact Peggy Winch, Coordinator of Volunteers at pwinch@aswecare.com or call 519-974-2220 ext 237 www.alzheimerwindsor.com

Relay For Life Is Here!

CLICK ABOVE TO ENLARGE

What is Relay For Life?

Relay For Life is an inspirational, non-competitive, 12-hour overnight fundraising event that brings you and your community together to celebrate life and fight cancer. Relay For Life has a festival-like atmosphere that your family, friends and co-workers can enjoy - regardless of age or fitness level!

Teams of 10-15 people fundraise individually and as a team to help the Canadian Cancer Society save lives and support those who are facing cancer now. Relay participants make a commitment to raise at least $100 and are supported with all the tools needed to reach their goals.

At Relay, teams gather with cancer survivors at their local track, stadium or sports field and take turns walking laps all night. Each team keeps at least one member on the track at all times, while all around them the party is in full swing. Teams stay overnight in the decorated tent city, united together to enjoy music, food, activities, entertainment and to celebrate life.

“Relay For Life feels like a festival and a celebration of life. While cancer may have touched each of our lives it isn’t going to beat us.” – Tammy Horvath, cancer survivor

Why is Relay overnight?

For the thousands of Canadians fighting cancer right now, their journey is long and hard. From the shock of initial diagnosis, through days of treatment and the long nights that follow, for them, cancer never sleeps, so neither do we.

At Relay For Life, each step we take is our way of showing them that they are not alone. As the sun rises and Relay draws to a close, we commit to continuing the fight for life all year long.

What makes Relay special?

Relay For Life is a global movement against cancer, taking place in 20 countries worldwide, including over 500 communities across Canada. Although every Relay is unique, they all share:

·         Survivors’ Victory Lap – Cancer survivors are surrounded by an emotional wave of support as they walk the first lap of the evening. In this moment, survivors celebrate success in their battle with cancer and give hope to those still facing the disease.

·         Luminary Ceremony - Luminaries are special candles that honour cancer survivors and remember loved ones who have lost their fight with cancer.

·         After being lit during a twilight ceremony, luminaries provide light and inspiration to participants all night.

·         Fight Back Ceremony – As the sun rises, participants join together to make a personal commitment to fight back against cancer in their own lives all year long.

Where does the money go?

Every dollar you raise at Relay For Life helps the Canadian Cancer Society to have more impact, against more cancers in more communities than any other cancer charity in Canada. You are helping us to:

·         Fund life-saving cancer research. More people are surviving cancer than ever before. Today, 62% of people diagnosed with cancer will survive compared to only 25% in the 1940s when we began funding research.

·         Stop cancer before it starts. Our researchers are leading the fight to prevent cancer while we promote healthy lifestyles and advocate for policies that protect our health.

·         Ensure no one facing cancer is alone by offering compassionate services and support to those living with cancer and their families and friends.

·         Empower Canadians with information about cancer to help them make informed choices about their health.

This year marks the Canadian Cancer Society’s 75th year in the fight for life. Throughout this milestone year, the Society will celebrate victories made possible by donors, volunteers, partners and staff, while continuing to work towards a future where no Canadian fears cancer.

“Our team had a great time working together to reach our fundraising goals. As we walked the track at Relay, it was so meaningful knowing that our efforts will make a real impact in the fight against cancer.” – David White, team captain

Art In The Park: More Exhibitors & Big Dallas Smith Concert May 31!

A record number of exhibitors have signed up for this year’s Art in the Park.

“We’re over the top, and over the moon about this”, Renee Pare, Event Chair for Art in the Park 2013, says. “We’re not only totally sold out for the 4th year in a row  -- we’ve also attracted our highest number of exhibitors and vendors ever – an all-time record 283. And we still have a waiting list. Through some ingenious restructuring, our planning team has actually carved out some additional display space for this year’s event.   Art in the Park 2013 is shaping up as our biggest – and best – show ever”, Pare enthuses.

In March, for the second consecutive year, Art in the Park was named one of the top 100 events of its kind by Festivals and Events Ontario.

Under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) -- and with the support this year of our Premier  sponsor  Caesars Windsor --  the 35th annual Art in the Park will be held on the grounds of Willistead Manor on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.  But the fun isn’t limited just to the weekend. The region’s largest annual outdoor arts and crafts event kicks off with live entertainment at a special pre-event launch party in the park on Friday night, May 31. Art in the Park has signed two well-known country music performers – Dallas Smith and Leah Daniels – for this year’s show.

Beer, wine and other refreshments will again be available in the event’s lively epicenter, the Spirit Tent, which will also offer great musical entertainment on Saturday and Sunday. Children will again have their very own special entertainment venue in the AIP Kids Zone.

As a special feature this year, event organizers have received a beautiful piece of art valued at more than $2,000 donated to AITP by noted artist Paul Murray.  A limited 1,760 draw prize tickets are available at $5.00 each for this exclusive edition painting. The draw will be held at the Rotary Club’s regular meeting at the Caboto Club on June 3, the day after Art in the Park closes.

The nearly 300 vendors from across Ontario and Quebec will display and sell their unique wares in an enticing array of tents and displays set up around the perimeter of Willistead Park.  Public viewing and shopping hours have again been extended from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  Art in the Park is one of only a few “juried” public art exhibitions at which standards of quality and acceptance is at a consistently high level.

Rotary is once again partnering with G & L Stevenson Transport to provide free parking and a continuous complimentary shuttle bus service to and from Willistead Park.  The two satellite parking lots are the Hiram Walker employees’ parking lot at 2072 Riverside Drive E. at Montreuil St. and the Windsor Regional Hospital parking lot on Kildare Rd. two blocks north of Tecumseh Rd. E.  The free shuttle buses will run from 9:40am to 7:30pm on Saturday, and from 9:40am to 5:30pm on Sunday.
Proceeds from Art in the Park go toward supporting local special needs children, youth and adults as well as the ongoing restoration of Windsor’s architectural jewel, Willistead Manor.  To date, this eagerly anticipated annual cultural event has raised well over $1 million
