Eat, Drink, Dine Kingsville (EDDK) is well on their way towards establishing the town as the premiere dining district of Essex County.  The first annual culinary celebration appropriately titled “Spring Flavours”, pairs delicious fare with Essex Pelee Island Coast (EPIC) Wines. From April 28 to May 4, 2014, restaurants will create a three course price fixed menu in addition to their regular offerings.

“Eat, Drink, Dine Kingsville is a group of food, beverage and hospitality owners and operators who have a shared goal of promoting Kingsville as a culinary destination.  We are fortunate to be centrally located in the middle of Ontario’s southern wine route and spoiled with a great selection of local products being offered from our farms and fisheries,” boasts Trevor Loop of Jack’s GastroPub.

Anthony Delbrocco, owner, Mettawas Station, shared his excitement. “We are proud to be a part of this growing partnership with Eat, Drink, Dine Kingsville. With the many different talents, culinary styles and atmospheres the town’s restaurants have to offer, we have decided to host the first-ever “Restaurant Week” in partnership with Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and EPIC Wineries - it’s sure to be a feast fit for a king!”

 

Lunch price fixe will include choice of 2 starters, 2-3 main dishes and 2 finishing courses falling within the price range of $15-$20. Dinner price fixe will include choice of 2 starters, main dishes and 2 finishing courses from $25-$40. EPIC Wines can be paired with one or all courses of your menu for an additional fee.

2014 Harold Hewitt Scholarship - Call For Submissions by Arpil 18, 2014

Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) is excited to announce that submissions are being accepted for the 2014 Harold Hewitt Scholarship. The Harold Hewitt Scholarship (HHS) was established in 2001 as a yearly contribution to the post-secondary education of youth in our community. Since 2001, over $70,000 has been presented under the HHS. WFCU is proud to continue the tradition by presenting a total of $5,000 to 16 youth through the HHS program this year. Students enrolled in JK to Grade 12, are invited to tell WFCU, in no more than 250 words, "What contribution do you see yourself making to Windsor and Essex County, now or in the future?" For example, you may want to start your own business or run for political office, etc. Selected submissions from each age category (noted below) will be chosen and the authors will be named recipients of WFCU's 2014 Harold Hewitt Scholarship. Recipients from each age category will receive: JK - Grade 2 3 @ $100 each Grade 3 - Grade 5 3 @ $200 each Grade 6 - Grade 8 3 @ $300 each Grade 9 - Grade 10 3 @ $400 each Grade 11 - Grade 12 4 @ $500 each   This special scholarship was inspired by the late Harold Hewitt, WFCU's long term Director on the Board whose dedication to the community was an integral part of the Credit Union. North American Bicycle Week March 27 to 30, 2014

North American Bicycle Week launch in Windsor

Businesses and organizations in Windsor and Detroit are collaborating and working together to celebrate cycling for the region's first North American Bicycle Week taking place March 27-30, 2014.

The event is organized by Detroit Bike City and WindsorEats along with partners Bike Friendly Windsor Essex, Cycle Culture, and the University of Windsor Cyclists Association will be hosting the Windsor launch to North American Bicycle Week on Thursday, March 27th.

“Each city shares a unique but connected history and we are thrilled be able to work in partnership with Detroit Bike City to highlight the wonderful and amazing things happening on both sides of the river,” Adriano Ciotoli, co-owner WindsorEats. “When we first heard about the NoAm Bicycle Week, we knew we had to get in touch with Detroit Bike City co-founders Mike MacKool and Jason Hall and be a part of a really collaborative effort between the two cities.”

Formed in 2012, Detroit Bike City is an organization dedicated to promoting cycling in the City of Detroit. They gained national attention for their weekly Monday evening bike ride called Slow Roll Mondays that routinely drew crowds of over 1,500 riders; on all types of bikes.

“We have planned on building Detroit Bike City into a weeklong and international show since the beginning,” says Mike MacKool, Detroit Bike City co-founder. “This past year presented us with so much opportunity and growth that we felt the time was right for us and the City of Detroit to take the event to a higher level. We want to use this partnership to set the stage for more opportunities of collaboration for us and others who see the value in creating a unified effort for both sides of the river.”

On the Detroit side there are plenty of fantastic events taking place over the week that include the Detroit Bike City Expo on Saturday, March 29 and the Slow Roll Season Opener on Sunday March 30. Local businesses such as WindsorEats will be at the expo highlighting the great cycling initiatives in Windsor Essex.4

Parade of Bicycles
Bust out that beautiful bike of yours and put on your fashionable trends, because they're having a parade! We're inviting the public to strut their stuff, walk down their "runway" and show off their bicycle pride. The event takes place at the Old Walkerville Theatre. Come out have good fortune wished upon your bike and happy travels for the upcoming season. It's a non denominational event and everyone is welcome.

New Writing & Illustration Club at Riverside Library: 1st Meeting March 18, 2014

The first meeting of a free new youth program (ages 8 and up), The Writing and Illustration Club, will be held on Tuesday, March 18 at 6 pm at Windsor Public Library's Riverside Branch, 6315 Wyandotte Street East.

The program is designed to:

• build a greater understanding of the creative writing process;

• act as a safe haven for writers who want to share their work with others, both in the group and  

  online; and

• offer illustrators free reign to create illustrations for storybooks or comics.

 

Members of this new free club will also have access to Riverside’s state-of-the-art iMac, which runs both iBooks Author and Autodesk^® SketchBook Pro. Various apps capable of enhancing writing and illustration techniques, for both iPad and Android devices, will also be explored.

The Riverside Writing and Illustration Club has a blog at rivwritingclub.wordpress.com to keep parents and friends up-to-date with what is happening and to teach the ins and outs of blogging. This page will also list dates for meetings in its "About" section at rivwritingclub.wordpress.com/about.

 

Remember, all members will have access to the iMac at any time during regular Riverside Library hours to work on their creative projects. Any writer/illustrator who is 8 years old and older is invited! Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) Community Donations Fund: Call For Proposals

In keeping with its commitment to support the community, Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) has issued a ‘Call For Proposals’ to local charitable and non-profit organizations.  Organizations are invited to submit proposals for consideration through WFCU’s Community Donations Fund (CDF).  The CDF provides funding assistance to existing and new non-profit and charitable programs and projects.  This year, $25,000 will be distributed to various organizations through the Community Donations Fund.

 Proposals will be divided into five specific categories: Medical Illness & Disease, Quality of Life, Disabilities, Cultural/Community and Support/Information.

 

All proposals must include:

 

·          Full name of organization, address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address and website address.

·          Name and title of contact person.

·          Charitable registration number and registered name.

·          Description, background and history of the organization.

·          Most recent annual report including financial statements.

·          Listing of board of directors and key staff.

·          List and description of normal funding sources.

·          Current programs and programs offered in previous year.

·          Focus, objective(s) and target audience of the program/project.

·          Budget, including total cost of the program/project and other funding sources for the program/project.

·          Program/project evaluation procedures.

 

Interested organizations are asked to submit six (6) copies of their proposal and supporting documentation to:
